Anatomy of a Room  - Using our beleaguered guest room as an example, here was the total process of renovating the guest room, front office/library, living room, and front bathroom.

Before - Before the house was jacked up and the plaster (and, frankly, we) began to crack. June 2002 - The cracked plaster was mostly removed one memorable Saturday morning by a team of plasterers recommended by Satan's Flooring Contractor.  This team was summarily dismissed when Jonny returned from Home Depot to find them gleefully throwing hard objects on the living room's fragile subfloor.  Chastened and terrified in the face of full Kent Manhood, they fled the scene, carelessly leaving behind sundry plastering supplies which came in very handy when Jonny decided he would just.do it. himself. June 2002 - The old lathe had to come down.  So before teaching himself how to hang drywall and apply joint compound in pleasing patterns, Jonny decided to replace the plaster lathe with plywood so that there would be something behind the drywall to drive nails into.

July 2002 - This picture doesn't remotely do justice to the fantastic job Jonny did of finishing the drywall with joint compound, getting a wonderful old fashioned effect that blended well with what was left of the existing plaster.  Go Jonny!  August 2002 - I gave the room a faux finish, then Satan's Flooring Contractor refinished the existing  floors in the two bedrooms and hallway in the old part of the house.  Sadly, we found after the floors dried that when we actually tried to walk on them they snapped beneath our feet.  The combination of subfloor damage and planks that couldn't take one last sanding resulted in our having to have the floors completely replaced.  October 2002 - Naturally, we decided to eschew another round with Satan's Flooring Contractor and hired another outfit that did an absolutely outstanding job.  Now the floors are strong and looking great!
