Meanwhile we've barricaded ourselves into the back of the house, where we're living in a 700-or-so square foot "apartment" consisting of the kitchen, laundry room, family room, bedroom, and bathroom.  It's a tad crowded, but we've learned to live with a piano in the bedroom.  Sacrifices had to be made though, and many of the houseplants are huddled fearfully in the bathtub of the front bathroom, hoping against hope that an errant construction worker doesn't accidentally relieve himself in their direction one day.

Having lived with me for almost nine years, Jonny was cognizant of just how insane I was liable to get when exposed to noisy construction workers five days a week for almost two months.  So he secured the unprotected border between the kitchen and the living room, where most of the action is, with a big old piece of heavy plywood.  That way I can't see them, they can't see me, and the sounds of their banging, jackhammering, and shouting along with James Brown songs on their portable radio are considerably mitigated.
